4-Day Făgăraș Mountains Ridge Trek

Experience the wild beauty of Romania’s highest peaks on this challenging 4-day alpine adventure. This demanding trek crosses the dramatic main ridge of the Făgăraș mountains, also called the Transylvanian Alps, in which you will witness some of the best alpine landscape and vast wilderness on the entire continent. 
 

Day 1: Porumbacu de Sus to Negoiu Chalet. Ascend through lush forests from the village of Porumbacu to Negoiu Chalet (1,546m). Rest and prepare for the rocky ridges ahead.

Day 2: Negoiu Chalet to Bâlea Lake. Conquer Negoiu Peak (2,535m), the second-highest in Romania. Pass the glacial Călțun Lake and cross dramatic technical sections to reach the iconic Bâlea Lake

➡️ Trail difficulty: intense –alpine trail with exposed areas and easy scrambling sections. 
➡️ Total elevation: 1350+
➡️ Distance: 12 km
➡️ Time : 9 h
 

Day 3: Bâlea Lake to Podragu Chalet. Hike along the scenic main ridge. Take in panoramic views of deep valleys before descending to Podragu Chalet (2,136m), the highest mountain hut in the range.

➡️ Trail difficulty: intermediate – alpine trail with short steep sections, short exposed areas.
➡️ Total elevation: 800+
➡️ Distance: 10 km
➡️ Time : 6-7 h
 

Day 4: Podragu Chalet to Sâmbăta Chalet via Moldoveanu Peak. Reach the roof of Romania at Moldoveanu Peak (2,544m). Celebrate the summit, then finish with a long descent to Sâmbăta Chalet from where we can take the transfer to the airport or we can stay for the night.

➡️ Trail difficulty: intermediate towards intense – alpine trail with steep sections and short exposed areas which require easy scrambling. 
➡️ Total elevation: 1000+
➡️ Distance: 14 km
➡️ Time : 9 h


 

Accommodation: will be at mountain cabins: Negoiu, Paltinu, Podragu (no shower) and Sâmbăta. The cabins offer rooms with multiple beds and restaurants. 

Flexibility: The routes may change depending on the group’s level of preparation and weather conditions.

Price:  Starting from 580 EUR/pers (for a 4 person group) and includes private transfer, 3 nights accommodation, international mountain leader, breakfast and dinner included.
